Word’s out on Asheville’s hip, hit street

The funky charm of Lexington Avenue is no secret to everyone who lives in Asheville. Now its fame has stretched statewide.

The North Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association selected Lexington from among 75 nominees to be one of the state’s four “Great Main Streets” and the only one in the mountains.

“They worked over time to turn it into a wonderful, interesting and dynamic place,” said Ben Hitchings, president-elect of the chapter. He was referring to the decades-long grassroots effort to revitalize the avenue. Read more here.
